Craving the feel of the earth beneath your feet? Vernon offers hiking and biking and golf, oh my! And Foodies – our farmers’ markets are bursting with vegetables from the earth, our orchards are brimming, and our restaurants, cheese farms and local wineries and breweries will have your taste buds buzzing!

Hiking trails are plentiful in Vernon, ranging in difficulty from easy to challenging. Follow a historic irrigation canal – turned trail – to discover our history at an easy going pace, hike in a beauttiful mountain park or climb into a creekside canyon trail for a waterfall reward! Whatever your hiking passion, you will find it along one of Vernon’s Top Ten Hiking Trails!

Biking is also popular in Vernon – be it mountain biking or road biking! The Bike Park at Silver Star is arguably one of BC’s best, offering both challenging routes and incredible views, and both Kalamalka and Ellison Provincial Parks have mountain bike trails that have been developed to “Whistler standards” by the North Okanagan Cycling Society. With five golf courses in Vernon, golf is not far to find. Vernon’s natural surrounding offers fantastic scenery and diversity of terrain to challenge your golf game, including a full range of golf experiences from Highlands Golf Short-game Excellence Course to one of Canada’s best golf destination resorts – Predator Ridge!

Not only does the earth produce great trails and golf courses for us in Vernon, it produces great harvests for the palette. Foodies will particularly enjoy the weekly Vernon Farmer’s Market, already brimming with strawberries as first taste of summer, local fruit, vegetables, gourmet foods, plants and delicious organic baking; farm touring at Davidson Orchard, Planet Bee Honey Farm and Honeymoon Meadery, Triple Island Cheese or Zelaney Farms, and then there are the many local wineries and breweries awaiting your venture either independently or on group tour with MJO Wine Tours!

WATER

The North Okanagan Valley is home to over 100 lakes within an hour’s drive of Vernon, offering visitors plenty of opportunity to enjoy the beach, pursue your water sports passion, cast a fishing line, and explore by SUP, kayak or boat!

Okanagan Lake, Kalamalka Lake and Swan Lake are the three most accessible lakes in Vernon. Okanagan is the largest, stretching 90 miles from Penticton in the south to Vernon in the north, and home to the legendary Ogopogo lake monster. Kalamalka Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world with its miriade of soft blue and green colors. Both Okanagan and Kalamalka Lakes offer fantastic beaches, boat launches and water activity rentals! Swan Lake is a smaller placid lake, ideal for fishing and bird watching!

Warm Summer Temperatures in Vernon

FIRE

Vernon’s warm season extends from June 17 – September 7 with summer temperatures ranging from 23 – 33 degrees Celsius, and providing a balmy climate to enjoy our North Okanagan outdoor playground.

Given the hot dry temperatures though there may be campfire bans on in some areas so you will want to plan ahead and bring a portable one to toast your marshmallows!
